Trex Select Colours

Trex Select currently includes a newer colour collection alongside classic Earth Tones. The newer shades add more variation and depth, while the Earth Tones keep a simpler, more monochromatic look. For a full collection page, show both groups clearly; for shopping blocks, surface only the colours you actively stock.

Trex Select New Collection

The newer Select colours add subtle streaking and a more dimensional finish for homeowners who want a richer, more current wood-inspired look. Trex’s current Select page highlights Whiskey Barrel, Malted Barley and Millstone in this group.

Trex Select Earth Tones

Earth Tones are the simpler, more classic side of the Select collection and work well for homeowners who want an easier-to-match deck palette.

Why Homeowners Choose Trex Select

Trex Select is a strong fit for homeowners who want the look of wood with simpler upkeep and a mid-priced position within the Trex decking range. Product materials emphasise low maintenance, recycled content, a protective shell and long residential warranty coverage.

No sanding, staining or sealing for routine upkeep.

Made with 95% recycled and reclaimed materials.

The integrated shell helps resist fading, stains and everyday wear.

Backed by limited residential and fade & stain coverage.

Trex Select vs Wood

Trex Select is often considered by homeowners comparing pressure-treated lumber with a longer-term low-maintenance composite option. Wood may have a lower upfront cost in some projects, but Select is designed to reduce routine sanding, staining and sealing over time. Actual project cost still depends on design, framing, labour and long-term upkeep.

Once we take into account the long term cost, and the maintenance required for all these different types of decking, we can see that composite decking comes out on top. Not only is the long-term cost lower than wood decking, but it is also just less work, meaning you get to spend less time worrying about your deck, and more time enjoying it.

Trex Select Decking FAQ

Q0: How do you install Trex Select decking?

A: Follow the current Trex installation guide for your exact board profile and fastening method. Trex’s guide lists Select boards at up to 16 in. on centre for typical residential perpendicular installations, with required gapping based on temperature and application. Always verify the latest manufacturer instructions before installation.

Q1: Which board should I use for hidden fasteners?

A: Use grooved boards for the main deck surface where hidden fasteners are required. Trex also notes that square-edge profiles can be routed for Trex Hideaway hidden fasteners where appropriate, while face fastening remains the standard choice for picture framing and stair treads.

Q2: Can Trex Select be used for stairs and picture framing?

A: Yes. Use square-edge boards for picture framing and stair treads, with matching riser and fascia boards for finishing details.

Q3: What is the difference between the Trex Select New Collection and Earth Tones?

A: The main difference is the look. The newer Select colours add more variation, subtle streaking and a more updated wood-inspired finish, while Earth Tones keep a simpler, more monochromatic appearance.

Q4: Can Trex Select be mixed with Trex Enhance or Transcend boards?

A: Trex notes that Select boards are slightly thinner than Enhance and Transcend boards, so these lines should not be combined on the same deck surface because that can create tripping hazards.

Q5: How do you clean Trex Select decking?

A: For general cleaning, Trex says soap and water is usually all that is required.ility.

Q6: Where can I see Trex Select in person in Ontario?

A: Visit our Vaughan, Peterborough, London or Barrie locations to compare colours and ask about current availability.

Review Fiberon Decking Installation Tips

  • Before installation, cut board edges – they do not come clean-cut from the factory. 3/16″ minimum cut recommended.
  • Trex Universal Fasteners are the recommended clips for all Trex Boards.
  • For Square-Edge boards, use Cortex Screws & Plug System. For water application, always use stainless steel screws.
    • Use 2 screws per joist.
  • Fascia Boards need 2 fascia screws when installed on 8″ framing, 3 screws on 10″+ of framing.
  • Boards need a minimum vertical spacing from the ground for ventilation. We recommend 1.5″ or more.
  • Joists for Trex Select boards should be at max at 16″ centres for 90° installation, and 12” for stringers.
    • 14″ for 60° install, 12″ for 45° install, 8″ for 30° install.
  • Boards should be spaced 3/16″ apart. 3/8″ if in close proximity to water.
    • For End-to-End spacing, install with 1/8″ spacing at more than 40°F, and 3/16″ spacing at less than 40°F.
    • Wall spacing should be 1/4″ at more than 40°F, 1/2″ at less than 40°F.

All of this is taken from the Trex’s official documents.

Not following manufacturer recommendations could result in a voided warranty.
