Most Affordable Solid Profile On The Market
Composite Decking comes in a variety of board profiles, and as expected, they have different durabilities and mechanical properties. Trex Select is the most affordable board with a Solid Profile – without question the most durable and reliable profile – on the market right now. Here are some different profiles you might encounter while looking for the perfect decking to suit your needs:
Hollow-core Profile
Hollow-core decking is weaker, and cheaper. It is more prone to cracking and breaking than scalloped or solid boards, and water can get trapped inside. It can also serve as a home for ants and bees. Because it is mostly imported from off-shore producers, it is sometimes difficult to get replacements and find matching boards if you ever need them.
This is a material you should consider if you are on a budget. Some examples of materials with hollow-core profiles are:
- TruNorth Decking
Scalloped Profile
Scalloped decking profiles come in a couple different types, they are generally a good option as long as they are produced by a reliable company. They do not trap moisture and are much more durable than hollow boards. Take care that there isn’t too much material cut out of the bottom of your choice of decking board. Some of the scalloped materials we trust are:
Solid Profile
This is unquestionably the best decking profile you can find. Solid profile boards are the most durable and reliable and have the smallest chance to trap moisture. These are the profiles used by all of the best material lines from trusted decking manufacturers. Trex Select is the most affordable solid profile board on the market. Here are some of the available materials with solid profiles:
- Trex Select
- Trex Transcend
- Trex Lineage
- Azek Harvest
- Azek Landmark
- Azek Vintage

- Use Starborn Fascia System Screws, or Cortex System for Fascia
- Boards need a minimum vertical spacing from the ground for ventilation. We recommend 1.5″ or more.
