Title

TimberTech Prime+ is a scalloped composite decking collection for homeowners who want a more accessible entry point into the TimberTech line without giving up a wood-inspired look. On this page, you can compare colours, board profiles, current product options, installation guidance and Ontario showroom availability.

About the Prime+ Collection

TimberTech Prime+ combines blended colours, a subtle straight grain finish and scalloped boards designed to reduce weight while maintaining a secure underfoot feel. The collection uses a moisture-shielding synthetic cap on three sides, is made with approximately 85% recycled material, and is backed by 25-year product and fade & stain limited warranties. Prime+ boards are available in grooved and square-shoulder profiles, with matching riser and fascia boards for a more complete deck finish.

TimberTech Prime+ Colours

Prime+ is available in three colours: Coconut Husk, Dark Cocoa and Sea Salt Gray. Compared with a flatter painted look, Prime+ adds more blending and dimension while keeping the overall appearance simple and easy to work into a wide range of home styles.

These colours work well for homeowners who want a traditional wood-inspired palette with a bit more depth than a flat solid tone.

TimberTech Prime+ vs Wood

TimberTech Prime+ is designed for homeowners who want the look of wood with less ongoing maintenance. Wood may still have a lower upfront cost in some projects, but Prime+ is built to avoid the routine sanding, staining and sealing associated with traditional wood decking. Keep this section qualitative rather than using aggressive lifetime-cost claims unless you have a clear, dated Ontario cost basis behind the numbers.

Illustrative comparison only. Actual project cost depends on design, framing, labour, material choice and long-term maintenance.

Once we take into account the long term cost, and the maintenance required for all these different types of decking, we can see that composite decking comes out on top. Not only is the long-term cost lower than wood decking, but it is also just less work, meaning you get to spend less time worrying about your deck, and more time enjoying it.

TimberTech Prime+ Decking FAQ

Q0: How do you install TimberTech Prime+ decking?

A: Follow the current TimberTech installation instructions for your exact board profile and fastening method. Joist spacing should not exceed 16 inches on center, while diagonal installations require 12 inches on center maximum. Side-to-side board gapping should stay within the manufacturer’s guidelines, and you should always verify the latest installation guide before building.

Q1: Which board should I use for hidden fasteners?

A: Use grooved Prime+ boards for the main deck surface where hidden fasteners are required. TimberTech EDGELoc hidden fasteners are designed for TimberTech EDGE Premier, Prime and Prime+ grooved boards.

Q2: Can TimberTech Prime+ be used for stairs and picture framing?

A: Yes, but use square-shoulder boards where face fastening is required. For stairs, follow the TimberTech installation guide carefully, and do not use hidden clips for stair installation.

Q3: What is the difference between TimberTech Prime and Prime+?

A: Prime and Prime+ are different collections. Prime is offered in Dark Teak and Maritime Gray and is positioned around a more painted, minimally blended look, while Prime+ is offered in Dark Cocoa, Sea Salt Gray and Coconut Husk and is described with blended colours for a more dimensional wood-inspired appearance.

Q4: Can Cortex fasteners be used with TimberTech Prime+?

A: No. TimberTech says Cortex is not compatible with scalloped Prime+ boards and suggests TOPLoc for TimberTech Composite for a colour-matched face-fastened finish where needed.

Q5: How do you clean TimberTech Prime+ decking?

A: TimberTech says the preferred cleaner is TimberTech DeckCleaner, but soap and water or an all-purpose cleaner can also be used for general cleaning.

Q6: Where can I see TimberTech Prime+ in person in Ontario?

A: Visit our Vaughan, Peterborough, London or Barrie locations to compare colours and ask about current availability.

Review TimberTech Decking Installation Tips

  • Boards should be installed at minimum ~1.5″ above the ground, and debris should be cleared for ventilation.
  • If you install without clips, keep a 3/16″-1/4″ spacing between the boards to allow water to flow off your deck.
  • Boards should be installed on joists no further than 16′ apart.
    • On diagonals and stair treads, joists should be 12′ apart.
  • ConcealLoc Clips are recommended by the manufacturer.
  • Edge boards should be installed using screws and plugs, or starter clips.
    • If using screws, it is highly recommended you use 2 screws per joist.
  • Install Risers and Fascia using TOPLoc Fascia Screws, 2-3 screws are recommended per joist.
    • Nails are not recommended by the manufacturer.
  • Use Joist Tape whenever possible. This will prolong the life of your deck frame, and deck boards.
