Why Homeowners Choose Trex Enhance

Composite Decking requires far less maintenance than wood – no sanding, staining, or sealing – saving you money in the long term.

Trex Decking is composed of approximately 95% recycled materials, making this a clean and sustainable material choice.

Enhance Decking requires absolutely no special tools, making installation easy and convenient.

This material has a 25-Year performance, stain and fade warranty. (In case you weren’t already convinced of its longevity)

Trex Decking vs Wood

Trex Enhance is often considered by homeowners, comparing the lower upfront price of some wood options with the lower ongoing maintenance of composite. Instead of making this section too “salesy,” keep the point simple: wood may cost less upfront in some cases, but composite reduces regular sanding, staining and sealing over time. Final project cost still depends on lumber choice, labour, design and long-term upkeep.

Once we take into account the long term cost, and the maintenance required for all these different types of decking, we can see that composite decking comes out on top. Not only is the long-term cost lower than wood decking, but it is also just less work, meaning you get to spend less time worrying about your deck, and more time enjoying it.

Trex Enhance Decking FAQ

Q0: What is the difference between Trex Enhance Basics and Naturals?

Trex Enhance Basics and Naturals use the same Trex Enhance composite decking platform, so the main difference is the visual style. If you want a cleaner, more understated finish, choose Basics; if you prefer more depth and variation, choose Naturals.

Trex Enhance Decking Installation Tips

Recommended Fasteners, Heights, Joist Spacing, and Board Spacing

Review Trex Decking Installation Tips

  1. Before installation, cut board edges – they do not come clean-cut from the factory. 3/16″ minimum cut recommended.
  2. Trex Universal Fasteners are the recommended clips for all Trex Boards.
  3. For Edge boards, use Starborn CapTor color-matched screws. For water application, always use stainless steel.
    • Use 2 screws per joist.
    • Enhance boards should not be used with plug systems at risk of voiding the warranty.
  4. Fascia Boards need 2 fascia screws when installed on 8″ framing, 3 screws on 10″+ of framing.
    • Use Starborn Fascia System Screws, or Cortex System for Fascia
  5. Boards need a minimum vertical spacing from the ground for ventilation. We recommend 1.5″ or more.
  6. Joists for Trex Enhance boards can be at 16″ centres, but 12″ centres are recommended for 90° installation, and 9″ for stringers.
    • 10″ for 60° install, 8″ for 45° install, 6″ for 30° install.
  7. Boards should be spaced 3/16″ apart. 3/8″ if in close proximity to water.
  • For End-to-End spacing, install with 1/8″ spacing at more than 40°F, and 3/16″ spacing at less than 40°F.
  • Wall spacing should be 1/4″ at more than 40°F, 1/2″ at less than 40°F.
