Maibec — Modern Siding

Modern siding is manufactured from kiln-dried SPF (spruce–fir) and factory-coated on all six sides in a controlled environment for maximum stain absorption and retention. This provides increased protection from sun and weather. For exterior use only.

Installation Orientation

Horizontal or vertical installation is permitted.

Note: With the Maibec em+® installation system, a vertical installation may result in more visible staples than a horizontal installation.

Fastening System

Regular Installation System (Nails) — for Regular profiles

  • Use Maibec hot-dipped zinc galvanized ring shank nails with textured head, corrosion resistant and factory-stained to match. (Order nails at the same time as the siding.)
  • A plastic hammer end cap is provided to protect the stain on nail heads.
  • Estimated quantities:
    • Simple nailing: 15 lbs of nails per 1,000 sq. ft.
    • Double nailing: 6" — 30 lbs per 1,000 sq. ft.
    • Double nailing: 8" — 20 lbs per 1,000 sq. ft.

Maibec em+® Installation System (Staples) — for em+ profiles

  • Fasten using 2", 7/16" crown, 16 gauge, resin-coated stainless steel SUS 304 staples.
  • Estimated quantities: 3,000 staples (1 box) per 750 sq. ft.
  • Also order 1 lb of 2" nails per 1,000 sq. ft. to nail the starter course, tops of walls, and around openings.
  • Recommended: Maibec em+® stapler guide (available through Maibec retailers).
  • Compatible pneumatic staplers (with the em+® stapler guide): HITACHI™ (N5008 AC 1" and AC 2"), MAKITA™ (AT1150A), SENCO™ (SNS41) and certain discontinued models (SNS50XP/SNS45XP/SNS44XP).

  • 50 years against wood decay
  • 15 years on solid stain (2 coats)
  • 8 years on natural tones stain
  • 5 years on labour

Wall Preparation (Key Requirements)

  • Install over a standard wall with studs up to 16" on-centre
  • Sheathing: OSB or plywood
  • Weather barrier: approved water-resistive barrier
  • Final step: install vertical furring strips into studs (per code and Maibec requirements) to create a continuous air gap, especially when used with ventilation and drainage accessories.

Complementary Accessories

  • Ventilation & drainage accessories: ventilated strips with a perforated 50% open pattern to support airflow/drainage and help prevent rodents and certain insects from entering behind the wall.
  • Metal corners: inside and outside corners available in 10' lengths.
