Enhance Decking: Composite vs Wood
One of the best things about the Enhance Decking Collection is the fact that it is priced competitively to wood, but needs none of the long-term costs, little maintenance, and no hassle. Enhance Decking costs $7.00 – $9.50 per square foot, a typical cedar deck will cost $8.50 – $15.00 per square foot, and a typical redwood deck will cost $6.00 – $12.00 per square foot. The cheapest thing you can get: pressure treated lumber – will cost you $4.00 – $8.00 per square foot. But all that is just the up-front cost.

Trex Composite Decking Enhance Collection FAQ
How do you install Trex Enhance Decking?
- Before installation, cut board edges – they do not come clean-cut from the factory. 3/16″ minimum cut recommended.
- Trex Universal Fasteners are the recommended clips for all Trex Boards.
- For Edge boards, use Starborn CapTor color-matched screws. For water application, always use stainless steel.
- Use 2 screws per joist.
- Enhance boards should not be used with plug systems at risk of voiding the warranty.
- Fascia Boards need 2 fascia screws when installed on 8″ framing, 3 screws on 10″+ of framing.
- Use Starborn Fascia System Screws, or Cortex System for Fascia
- Boards need a minimum vertical spacing from the ground for ventilation. We recommend 1.5″ or more.
- Joists for Trex Enhance boards can be at 16″ centres, but 12″ centres are recommended for 90° installation, and 9″ for stringers.
- 10″ for 60° install, 8″ for 45° install, 6″ for 30° install.
- Boards should be spaced 3/16″ apart. 3/8″ if in close proximity to water.
- For End-to-End spacing, install with 1/8″ spacing at more than 40°F, and 3/16″ spacing at less than 40°F.
- Wall spacing should be 1/4″ at more than 40°F, 1/2″ at less than 40°F.
Not following manufacturer recommendations could result in a voided warranty.
